In an article entitled « Morocco and Spain… A bridge to the future », published Monday by the London newspaper « Al-Arab », the Lebanese journalist wrote that « the world is finally divided into countries that insist on staying in the past and others that are aware of developments around them with a focus on complementarity between them, especially when they are neighbors.
He added that Spain has recently discovered that Morocco has become an important gateway to Africa, while Morocco has always maintained a stable policy towards Spain, despite all the fluctuations that have characterized the positions of Spanish governments since 1975, specifically.
He stressed that Spain has seized this new reality and ignored the Algerian position, when it announced that the Moroccan initiative of autonomy in the Sahara provinces, presented by the Kingdom in 2007, is the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving this conflict, noting that it is a very important development that Spain ignores the Algerian reaction.
The article emphasized that « the statement issued after the talks of the head of the Spanish government with HM King Mohammed VI went further, when it stressed the opening of a new page in relations between the two countries based on the principles of transparency, permanent dialogue, mutual respect, and respect for commitments and agreements signed between the two parties and their implementation, as well as responding to the call of the Moroccan Sovereign to inaugurate an unprecedented stage in relations between the two countries and the call of King Felipe VI of Spain to move forward together to embody this new relationship. »
It explained that the importance of correcting the nature of relations between Morocco and Spain lies in the fact that the latter has recently discovered that it is not in its interest to create hostility with a country located a few kilometers in the Mediterranean.
It noted that relations between the two kingdoms are too deep to be affected by a passing incident, noting that Spain has finally chosen the partnership with Morocco.
Khairallah Khairallah concluded that the joint statement issued at the end of the visit of Pedro Sanchez to Morocco did not leave any point regarding the future of relations between the two countries, indicating that Madrid has thus transcended all the complexes it suffered with Morocco and has addressed in depth every issue that concerns both parties, including cooperation in the field of migration.
