Police at the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca arrested on Tuesday seven foreign nationals, four Bulgarians and three Iranians, for alleged links with an international human trafficking and illegal immigration network.

In a statement released on Wednesday, National Police (DSGN) said that border control procedures have led to the arrest of three Iranian nationals caught in the act of attempting to illegally immigrate to a Spanish airport using false travel documents.

The investigations carried out in this case also led to the arrest of four Bulgarians, allegedly involved in the planning of this illegal immigration attempt, the DGSN explained.

The investigation into this case has been entrusted to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ), on the instructions of the competent prosecutor’s office.

Searches conducted in this case resulted in the confiscation of several forged travel documents, boarding passes and cell phones with international SIM cards to facilitate communication between members of the network and candidates for illegal immigration during transit operations, the statement continued.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 68, were all placed in custody for the inquiry conducted by the national office of the fight against illegal immigration, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor, to identify all local and international ramifications of this criminal network, it concluded.
