Moroccan former player Benatia says globe will stop for World Cup games
Moroccan former player Mehdi Benatia said FIFA World Cup is the most watched sporting event worldwide, reported the international federation in a press release published Thursday.
“It feels like the entire world stops what they’re doing to follow what’s happening at the tournament. It’s wonderful to have a competition that can bring so many people together,” he said.
“We are living in uncertain times filled with conflicts and global crises. The world is divided,” Benatia added.
The Moroccan player further stated FIFA World Cup, through the power of football will bring people together to cross borders, unite and celebrate together.
Football unites the World will be a global movement to inspire, unite and develop through football, according to the same source.
“Benatia, captain of his national side from 2013 to 2019, the former center-back, who pulled on the jerseys of Roma, Juventus, and Bayern Munich during an illustrious club career, played a key role in Morocco’s qualification for Russia 2018,” said FIFA in the press release.
The upcoming FIFA sporting event will kick off on November 20 and runs until December 18.
Morocco’s national team came out with Group F countries, alongside Croatia, Belgium, and Canada.
