The DGAPR denies the unfounded allegations contained in the Amnesty International report on detainees

In an update sent to MAP, the Delegation indicates that the detainees mentioned in the said report benefit from all the rights enshrined in the regulations governing prison establishments, just like other detainees, namely the right to walk , studies, regular visits and communication with the outside world, in addition to interviews with their lawyers.
They also have inside their cells a radio, a television set with access to pay sports channels and also receive books, magazines and newspapers from their relatives, in addition to publications (books, magazines and newspapers ) as well as the pens and sheets of paper they have access to at their request from the penitentiary establishments where they are serving their sentences, the same source adds.
Concerning the unfounded allegations published in the Amnesty International report about detainee RB at the local prison El Arjat 1, the DGAPR ensures that the administration of this prison has never prohibited his relatives from bringing him a book, specifying that during the year 2023 alone, the prisoner in question had received 44 newspapers, including 36 in French, 19 books in addition to the Holy Quran, as well as a notebook and pens, knowing that the administration of this establishment delivers pens and sheets of paper whenever he asks for it.
The same source notes that the detainee in question also receives letters from outside and periodically benefits from family visits.
With regard to the situation of the prisoner MZ who is serving his sentence in this same prison, the DGAPR specifies that his individual confinement took place following an oral request on his part expressed just after his incarceration before being confirmed in writing addressed to the administration on May 3, 2023, adding that this detainee received during the past months of this year two books in French and two large format notebooks, contrary to the fallacious allegations of this organization on his supposed »deprivation of access to newspapers and to maintain correspondence with his lawyer.
And to also indicate that the detainee MZ sent correspondence on April 26, 2023 to the King’s Attorney General requesting the presence of a notary at the penitentiary establishment in order to establish a power of attorney for him in the name of his son, a lawyer by profession . Moreover, the same source indicates that this prisoner has in his cell a television, hot water and a heater.
Regarding the situation of the TB detainee who is serving his sentence at the local prison El Arjat 2, the DGAPR specifies that he has received many books and newspapers and also has a radio and a television with access to the channels. sports, adding that in the past few months of this year, he has received 257 newspapers, 32 magazines, 474 printed online newspapers, 12 French-language newspapers as well as 36 books, in addition to his possession of notebooks, sheets of paper and pens used in its queries and correspondence.
Concerning the case of the detainee OR imprisoned in the Tifelt prison and the allegations of the report on »his supposed deprivation of continuing his studies and of having pens and sheets of paper », the DGPAR reveals that the detainee in question spent without success on October 3 of a selection exam for access to the »Master of social institutions and organizations » at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences Aïn Chock in Casablanca, adding that his supposed »deprivation of pens and paper of paper » is an unfounded accusation since the prisoner in question has books, magazines and newspapers that he received from his family or by borrowing them from the prison library,in addition to the privilege of taking music lessons at the educational center of the prison.
And to add that the detainee in question received during the last months of the year 2023 a total of 72 books, 83 newspapers, 22 magazines. Regarding his contact with the outside world, the same source indicates that he received 49 letters, in addition to telephone communications with his relatives as well as family visits which are made to him on a regular basis.
As for the SR detainee who is serving his sentence at the local prison Aïn Borja, the DGAPR assures us in its development that he also has a quantity of books and newspapers as well as a radio and a television set, detailing that during the last months of this year, it received 30 books, including 13 in French, 99 Arabic-language newspapers, 16 French-language newspapers, 6 Arabic-language magazines and 18 others in French.
And to conclude by specifying that his individual confinement follows his request dated May 25, 2020 which received a favorable response from the administration of the penitentiary establishment, contrary to the allegations of Amnesty International.
