Al Haouz Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 1,037

 At least 1,037 people were killed and 1,204 were wounded, including 721 in critical condition, in the powerful earthquake that rocked Morocco’s central province of Al Haouz late on Friday, according to an updated Interior ministry toll (Saturday at 1 pm).

   This earthquake caused 542 deaths in Al Haouz, 321 in Taroudant, 103 in Chichaoua, 38 in Ouarzazate and one death in Tinghir, while no new deaths were reported in the provinces and cities of Marrakech, Azilal, Agadir Ida Outanane, Greater Casablanca and Youssoufia, the ministry said in a press release.
   Public authorities have mobilized all necessary human and logistical to provide the necessary assistance for the victims.
   While ensuring the continuation of the relief operations which are taking place in good conditions, the Interior ministry hails the solidarity and patriotism of local population who have overcome the earthquake consequences to join the efforts of all services concerned, the same source added.
