A Princess with a big heart, HRH Princess Lalla Asmae has been involved in social activism from an early age, constantly looking after the welfare of deaf-mute children and undertaking initiatives to help integrate them into the social fabric as full-fledged citizens.
In her capacity as President of the Lalla Asmae Foundation for Deaf Children and Young People, Her Royal Highness is concerned for this vulnerable category, surrounding it with her solicitude and providing invaluable support to this institution, a pioneer in the care of deaf-mute children.
For several decades now, the Foundation has been offering specialized teaching, based on the national education primary and secondary cycle curriculum, to beneficiaries who are entitled to technical support thanks to digital hearing aids, cochlear implants and electronic transmission systems that help them adapt and emerge from isolation.
By the start of the 2018 academic year, the Foundation’s first class of high school diploma holders had benefited from partnership agreements signed with the Rabat Faculty of Science and the Fez Euro-Mediterranean University, which has enabled these students and all those who will follow them to broaden their access to higher education.
Vocational training, meanwhile, is no exception. Training courses in embroidery, weaving, hairdressing and the plastic arts are offered by the institution, which is committed to introducing its students to specialties integrated into the vocational training centers of the Crafts sector.
HRH Princess Lalla Asmae’s unwavering support for deaf-mute children is a sign of Her Royal Highness’s constant commitment to various social and charitable initiatives.
On October 17, 2022, at the Specialties Hospital in Rabat, HRH The Princess presided over the ceremony to launch the cochlear implant operation in West Africa as part of the « NASMAA » program.
On April 26, 2023, at the « Abderrahim Harrouchi » Mother and Child Hospital in Casablanca, Her Royal Highness presided over the ceremony to launch the national neonatal hearing screening program.
On June 26 of the same year, HRH The Princess inaugurated the « Princess Lalla Asmae Centre for Deaf Children » in Tangiers, before presiding over the Foundation’s 2022-2023 end-of-school-year ceremony.
Cultural and sporting activities are also central to the concerns of Her Royal Highness, who is also Honorary President of the Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature.
With the celebration of HRH Princess Lalla Asmae’s birthday, the Moroccan people pay tribute to a highly committed Princess who, through her great kindness and renowned humanism, has left an indelible mark on social action for the benefit of hearing-impaired children.
