President of the World Bank Group (WB), Ajay Banga, highlighted on Wednesday in Marrakech the remarkable reconstruction efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco following the Al Haouz earthquake.

Speaking at a press conference on the occasion of the Annual Meetings of the WB Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Banga emphasized that Morocco had undertaken important reconstruction measures, in particular those aimed at mitigating the impact of this natural disaster on the schooling of children in the affected regions.

In this regard, the WB president recalled his visit last Monday to the Haut Atlas collegiate high school in the commune of Asni (Al Haouz province), adding that getting children back to school remains a major priority for both Morocco and the World Bank, which is fully committed to guaranteeing the education of young people.

In this respect, he affirmed that one of the main objectives of the WB’s action is the economic inclusion of young people and women, which inevitably requires the schooling of children, especially girls, to enable them to contribute to their country’s economic development.

With regard to the partnership between the World Bank and Morocco, Banga stressed that the Kingdom is a reliable partner, recalling that the financial institution is accompanying the country in the implementation of its New Development Model.

Referring to the WB’s expectations of these Annual Meetings, which are being held in Africa after an absence of 50 years, he said that this major event would provide an opportunity to examine the opportunities to be seized, and to breathe new life into economic growth on the Continent.
