This solidarity initiative is part of the medical care system set up by the Foundation on the instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, from the very first days of the earthquake, according to a Foundation statement issued on Thursday.
According to the same source, this surgical campaign was scheduled as a continuation of the medical services provided at the Foundation’s field hospital in Talat N’Yaaqoub, following ophthalmology consultations which led to the diagnosis of cases requiring cataract surgery.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity reports that 200 patients from various douars and localities, including Talat N’Yaaqoub, Asni and Ouirgane, have been identified. They underwent pre-operative consultations (biological check-up and medical opinion) on November 7 and 8, and will benefit from free surgery.
The Foundation will also cover their transport to and from the hospital, as well as their return to their place of residence, according to the same source, stressing that the post-operative follow-up phase will be carried out by ophthalmology specialists mobilized at Talat N’Yaaqoub and/or the Tahanouat provincial hospital.
The campaign will be carried out in collaboration with the regional and provincial departments of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, local authorities and the Moroccan Medical Solidarity Association, which will provide two ophthalmic surgical units.
A large number of human and technical resources have been set aside to ensure that the campaign runs smoothly, the same source pointed out, noting that in addition to the Foundation’s teams (medical staff and social workers), a team of 11 surgeons and 39 nurses, as well as volunteer student nurses, will be taking part in this solidarity operation.
