Responding to a question on « the continued closure of certain mosques in rural areas », submitted by the Istiqlalien Group for Unity and Equality to the House of Representatives, the Minister also reported on the restoration and maintenance of 397 mosques under the same program for a budget of around 215.259 million dirhams, noting that 612 mosques are in the destruction and reconstruction phase for a total estimated cost of 969 million dirhams.
In addition, 174 mosques are currently being restored and maintained at a total cost of almost 174 million dirhams, while 892 mosques are still closed, he added, noting that his department is working to make the necessary credits available for their qualification over the next few years.
He pointed out that the number of mosques in rural areas stands at 37,717, of which 892 are currently closed on the basis of decisions issued by provincial building inspection commissions.
Taoufiq indicated that the Ministry had restored 108 mosques during the 2000-2023 period, noting that « this is a very significant figure, with an overall cost estimated at 714 million dirhams ». The Ministry is currently restoring 28 mosques at an estimated cost of 120 million dirhams, he explained.
