Al Haouz Quake: Akhannouch Chairs 7th Meeting of Interministerial Commission for Deploying Emergency Program

 Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, on Tuesday in Rabat, the 7th meeting of the Interministerial Commission in charge of the deployment of the emergency program of rehabilitation and aid to the reconstruction of housing destroyed following the Al Haouz earthquake, devoted to the examination of the state of progress of the implementation of this program.

On this occasion, the commission reviewed the interventions of the various ministerial departments relating to the treatment of the effects of the Al-Haouz earthquake, set up in accordance with the High Royal Directives, according to a statement by the Head of Government’s department.

The commission examined the progress made in opening up roads and clearing public buildings and housing collapsed in the earthquake.

An emergency program worth Dh810 million has been activated to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake and restore the damage to the road network.

The commission also praised efforts to open up unclassified rural roads and tracks, noting that the results of this operation covered a total of 624 kilometers in 300 douars and 4 provinces.

The commission then examined the project to build the « Tassa Ouikan » dam, with a storage capacity of 3 million m3 at a cost of around 449.6 million dirhams, which will contribute to local development, promote local products and encourage ecological tourism. Work relating to this project is scheduled to start in January 2024.

In addition, the operation to clear public buildings and housing collapsed during the earthquake will cover 2,687 douars.

This operation, worth 300 million dirhams, was the subject of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the Ministry of the Interior, under the terms of which the Ministry of Equipment and Water will supply the public works machinery and the Ministry of the Interior will provide the necessary manpower and materials.
