Highlighting Spain as Morocco’s principal trading partner for over a decade, Benyaich revealed that trade exchanges in 2023 had surged to nearly 22 billion euros, emphasizing the resilience and structural nature of their commercial ties. Morocco has now solidified its position as Spain’s third-largest trading partner outside the European Union, trailing only behind the United States and the United Kingdom.
The ambassador pointed out that over 20,000 Spanish companies maintain regular trade relations with Morocco, and approximately 1,000 have chosen to establish a presence in the country, with a notable 25% hailing from Catalonia.
Spanish investments in Morocco have surpassed one-third of Spain’s total direct investment in Africa, positioning the Kingdom as a preferred destination for Iberian businessmen. Simultaneously, Moroccan companies’ investments in Spain have seen consistent growth in recent years, showcasing the mutual benefits of this economic partnership.
Connectivity between the two nations has significantly flourished, with over 230 flights and 538 weekly maritime connections facilitating a growing flow of people and goods.
The economic forum, organized by the Confederation for the Promotion of National Employment and the Morocco-Spain Economic Council (CEMAES), featured presentations by key figures such as Ali Seddiki (Director General of AMDIE), Chakib Alj (President of CGEM), Mehdi Tazi (CEO of TMSA), Said Ibrahimi (Executive Director of Casablanca Finance City Authority), and the Co-Chairs of the Morocco-Spain Economic Council, Adil Rais and Clemente González Soler.
The presentations focused on highlighting Morocco’s strengths as an attractive platform for foreign investments, especially from Catalonia. Emphasis was placed on support instruments for investments in Morocco and the multitude of opportunities the Kingdom presents as an economic and financial hub for the Europe-Africa-Middle East triangulation.
Attended by more than 200 companies, the meeting provided an opportunity for Catalan businesses established in Morocco to share successful experiences, showcasing the favorable business climate and facilities provided by Moroccan administrations.
A significant delegation, led by Minister Delegate Mohcine Jazouli, responsible for Investment, Convergence, and Policy Evaluation, actively participated in this high-level business meeting. The aim is to promote the Kingdom’s strengths and explore investment opportunities for Spanish companies in Morocco, further solidifying the strategic and multidimensional partnership between the two nations.
