As part of its proactive approach to combating terrorist threats, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), dismantled, on January 29 and 30 in the cities of Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal and Inzegane, a four-member terrorist network active in recruiting and sending fighters to join the branch of the « Daesh » organization in the Sahel-Saharan region.

Investigations have revealed that this network coordinates with leaders of this organization in the Sahel-Saharan region with a view to helping extremists to reach this area, said the BCIJ in a statement.

Searches carried out at the homes of the suspects, aged between 35 and 40, led to the seizure of several electronic devices, sums of money, bladed weapons in the form of large sabres, balaclavas, gloves and a rifle, the same source added.

This operation is part of the Moroccan security services’ commitment to confronting the rising threats posed by « Daesh » and other terrorist organizations, especially in the wake of incitement from these organizations calling for people to join their ranks, particularly in the Sahel, it stressed.

The arrested persons were placed in police custody as part of the investigation carried out by the BCIJ, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism and extremism affairs, to determine their interconnections with terrorist organizations abroad and reveal their possible terrorist plans and enterprises.

The suspects will be brought to justice as soon as the investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, is completed, the same source concluded.
