SIAM, whose 16th edition will feature Spain as guest of honor, brings together nearly 1,500 exhibitors from 70 countries, and is expected to attract over 900,000 visitors this year, the ministry said in a statement.
The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, took part in the inauguration of this agricultural fair, which is being held in Meknes from on April 22-28 under the theme « Climate and agriculture: for sustainable and resilient production systems », noted the statement, adding that « this event is considered the most prestigious in North Africa ».
As guest of honor, Spain will have a stand hosting a large representation of Spanish companies, covering the different stages of agricultural production (agricultural inputs, nurseries, irrigation technology, industrial refrigeration, etc.), according to the Spanish Ministry.
Spain’s participation in this event is also an opportunity to demonstrate not only its importance as a major player in terms of food safety, but also its potential in developing technology and innovation linked to the primary sector, the same source stressed.
The statement underlined that the Spanish government has developed a full program of events and conferences throughout the Fair to discuss the issues of greatest concern to the agricultural sector, including agricultural innovation, sustainability, climate change, water management and how new technologies can offer solutions to the challenges of the future and ensure farm profitability.
In addition, the Spanish ministerial department reported that Spanish exports to Morocco have reached an all-time high in 2023, with a value of 12.146 billion euros, 3.3% more than in 2022, which is significantly higher than the growth in Spanish sales worldwide.
