Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, announced on Monday in Rabat that the Executive and the trade unions had reached an agreement, as part of the April round of social dialogue, for a general increase of 1,000 dirhams net per month in the salaries of public sector civil servants who have not benefited from a pay rise.

Akhannouch told the press that the agreement also provides for a monthly reduction in Income Tax  of around 400 dirhams for middle-income civil servants and employees, as well as a further 10% increase in the Guaranteed Interprofessional Minimum Wage and the Guaranteed Agricultural Minimum Wage in the industrial and commercial sectors, as well as for the liberal professions.

With this agreement, the number of beneficiaries of the income increase has reached 4.250 million dirhams since the start of the social dialogue, including 1.250 million civil servants in the public sector and 3 million employees in the private sector, confirming the Kingdom’s democratic and social orientation, he added.

In addition, the Head of Government stressed that this round of social dialogue, alongside measures to increase incomes, had enabled agreement to be reached on the basic principles for implementing the reform of pension schemes and the organic law on strikes, which will continue to be examined by parliament.

Akhannouch also noted that the government, in consultation with social and economic partners, would be examining some laws relating to general legislation, stressing that the government is reaffirming its commitment to institutionalizing social dialogue in line with the Royal Vision, which has elevated it to the status of a strategic choice.
