His Majesty King Mohammed VI was represented at the Summit by Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
The Moroccan delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Ambassador to Bahrain, Mustapha Benkhayi, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Delegate of the Kingdom to the Arab League, Mohamed Ait Ouali.
The Summit was marked by the speech addressed by His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, in which the Sovereign stressed that the difficult circumstances affecting the Palestinian question today as a result of the blatant Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip “only enhance our determination to make sure the Palestinian issue remains at the core of efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
HM the king also underlined that “the future of our Arab Ummah hinges on the formulation of a common strategic vision, making sure there is genuine political will to consolidate its unity and close its ranks in order to serve the common interests of our peoples and fulfil their aspirations for greater understanding and integration among its members.”
The Bahrain Declaration, adopted at the end of the 33rd Summit of the Arab League Council, expressed its support to the role of the Chairmanship of the Al-Quds Committee and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, held by HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.
This support was expressed by the Arab leaders in their decision entitled “Situation Developments and Israeli violations in the occupied city of Al-Quds”.
The Manama Arab Summit commended Moroccan initiatives in the fight against terrorism and extremism as well as climate change, while highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts to resolve the crisis in Libya.
Arab leaders reiterated their categorical rejection of any form of support for armed groups or militias that follow or implement foreign agendas contrary to the supreme interests of Arab countries.
They affirmed their solidarity with all Arab countries in defending their sovereignty and territorial integrity, and protecting their national institutions against any attempt at foreign aggression, hegemony or undermining Arab sovereignty and interests.
They also reiterated the steadfast Arab position against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and their total rejection of its motives and pretexts, while working to dry up its sources of funding, and to support international efforts to combat extremist terrorist organizations, block their funding and confront the dangerous consequences of this phenomenon on the region and the threats it poses to international peace and security.
The Arab Summit devoted a large part of its discussions to the Palestinian question, with the Bahrain Declaration calling for the deployment of international UN peacekeeping forces in the occupied Palestinian territories, pending implementation of the two-state solution.
In this regard, the Declaration stressed the responsibility of the UN Security Council to take clear steps towards the implementation of the two-state solution, with the imperative of establishing a timetable for the political process and the issuance of a resolution establishing the independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state, with East Al-Quds as its capital, living side by side with Israel, in accordance with the resolutions of international legality and the relevant frames of reference, including the Arab Peace Initiative.
