Yesterday, in the commune of El Argoub (60 km from Dakhla), a test and research center for the French company « Airseas » was inaugurated. Specializing in the development of wind energy technology for maritime propulsion, this company is making a significant step towards decarbonizing global maritime transport. The center, covering an area of 80 hectares with an investment of 50 million dirhams, is equipped with advanced technology to test and improve the « Seawing » system, an automated 1000-square-meter wing designed to reduce ships’ fuel consumption by 20%. This innovative system uses AI-based automated control to optimize routes for maximum efficiency and can be quickly adapted to various types of ships. The site also includes a 2400-square-meter hangar with mechanical and electronic workshops, as well as a command center simulating navigation conditions. Monir Houari, Director General of the Regional Investment Center of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, highlighted that this project has created 30 direct jobs and meets a high demand for renewable energy projects in the region, positively impacting local economic development. Masao Nakayama, CEO of Airseas, noted that Dakhla-Oued Eddahab is the best choice for this innovative project due to its favorable climatic conditions, which support sustainable green development. Adrian Fortin, Project Director of Airseas Morocco, explained that this site aims to test and improve the « Seawing » to achieve the goal of reducing ships’ fuel consumption by 20%. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mohamed Zahbi, Secretary General of the province of Oued Eddahab, elected officials, consuls general of several countries in Dakhla, as well as Moroccan and foreign economic actors.
