The Argentine Football Federation is reported to have filed a complaint with FIFA after the last-minute cancellation of its goal against Morocco by VAR (1-2) during the first day of the men’s football tournament at the Olympic Games.

« The Argentine Football Federation informs that due to the well-known events that occurred today during the match between our U-23 national team and its Moroccan counterpart, a formal complaint has been filed with FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee to ensure the necessary regulatory measures are taken for an event of such gravity, » Albiceleste wrote in a statement.

« It is imperative to guarantee the safety of the protagonists in the peaceful development of this beautiful sport that is football, and from the Argentine Football Federation, we will do what is necessary to make this happen, » added the same source.

The match between Morocco and Argentina in the men’s football tournament at the Olympic Games was marked by numerous twists, including Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg’s decision to cancel Argentina’s second goal (90+16′) for offside after the match resumed for three minutes.

The match had been interrupted after the Argentine team scored an equalizing goal (2-2) in the 16th minute of stoppage time at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium in Saint-Étienne.

In front of 35,000 spectators, Morocco took the lead thanks to a brace from Rahimi, top scorer of the Asian Champions League and winner with Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates (45+2 and 51 on penalty). Argentina reduced the gap through Giuliano Simeone, son of Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone (68), before Cristian Medina scored the equalizing goal in the 16th minute of stoppage time.
