After initiating a nocturnal sit-in at all toll stations across the country, the National Union of employees of the Moroccan National Highway Authority’s (ADM) operation centers, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), has decided to organize a warning strike at all toll stations.
Emergency services will be maintained during this strike, scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on the 16th, 17th, and 18th, as well as the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of August 2024. The strike will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with workers remaining at their workplaces in the operation centers during the strike days, according to the workers.
This renewed protest is a response to the lack of dialogue, the violation of union rights, and the defense of employee rights, the strikers explain. It also aims to ensure decent working conditions and safeguard the dignity and well-being of the workers while expressing dissatisfaction with the current situation in the sector.
The union of operation centers calls on ADM, accused of refusing any dialogue, to respond quickly to the issues raised to end this situation harming the workers and allow them to reclaim their rights.
In this context, the union condemns ADM’s antisocial policies and its refusal to engage in dialogue, which constitutes a violation of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and national and international laws.
The union also deplores the inaction of the committees responsible for resolving disputes and implementing the provisions of the social pact. It calls for the convening of these committees and the opening of serious discussions on sectoral distribution to avoid having to defend these issues through legal means.
In conclusion, the union reaffirms its commitment to continue and maintain peaceful protest in accordance with national laws and international conventions on human rights and freedoms.
