On Monday evening, the Royal Gendarmerie Center in the village of Ba Mohamed, near the city of Tétouan, referred a grandfather and his grandson to the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Fes, accused of sexually assaulting the grandfather’s minor granddaughter, which resulted in her becoming pregnant.
According to available information, the victim’s family, who is 13 years old, filed an urgent complaint with the Royal Gendarmerie. They accuse the grandfather and the minor cousin of repeatedly sexually assaulting her, leading to an out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
The complaint states that the pregnancy is in its sixth month and that the assaults occurred during the last Ramadan. The perpetrators allegedly threatened the girl with death if she disclosed the abuse to her family or close acquaintances.
After hearing the victim and confirming her medical condition, the public prosecutor decided to arrest the grandfather and grandson based on the judicial police report. They have been placed in police custody following their arrest at their home in the Douar de la Maknassa and were transferred to the Ba Mohamed investigation center to continue the investigations.
It is worth noting that Article 485 of the Moroccan Penal Code imposes a prison sentence of five to ten years for anyone convicted of sexual assault involving violence.
