In celebration of Youth Day, Bank Al-Maghrib has announced the release of a new 20-dirham banknote, which will be in circulation starting Wednesday, August 21, 2024. This redesigned banknote highlights the richness of Morocco’s architectural heritage and sociocultural development, as stated in a press release by the bank.

The front of the banknote, which showcases the beauty and grandeur of the kingdom, features a portrait of King Mohammed VI, the national coat of arms, an architectural motif inspired by Moroccan gates, and a stylized view of Al Qaraouiyine University in Fez. On the reverse side, there are artistic depictions of the Grand Theatre of Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern Art, the stands of a sports complex, and a stylized view of the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou.

Blending tradition with modernity, this new banknote incorporates the latest advanced security features, including a color-changing security thread with dynamic effects, an iridescent strip on the reverse, tactile motifs for the visually impaired, and progressive numbering. The entire design and production of this banknote were carried out exclusively by Moroccan experts at Dar As-Sikkah.
