Danish defender Andreas Christensen, who plays for Barcelona, the runner-up of last season’s La Liga, will be sidelined for up to two months after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury, according to local reports on Saturday.

Barcelona stated in an announcement: « Christensen suffers from tendonitis in his left Achilles tendon, » without specifying the exact duration of his absence.

At 28 years old, Christensen will miss several matches, including clashes with Athletic Bilbao and Girona in the domestic league, as well as Barcelona’s first Champions League game.

Barcelona will also be without Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo until November after he injured his hamstring during the Copa América this summer.

Barcelona kicked off their league campaign with a 2-1 win over Valencia, featuring central defenders Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez, while Christensen came on as a substitute in the 64th minute, replacing Cubarsí.
