The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court has threatened to suspend the operations of the social media platform « X » in the country if its owner, Elon Musk, does not appoint a local legal representative within 24 hours.

In a judicial order published yesterday, Wednesday, Judge Alexandre de Moraes directed Elon Musk to inform the court « within 24 hours » of the name and status of the new legal representative for « X » in Brazil, under the threat of « immediate suspension of the platform’s activities. »

In response, Elon Musk stated on the X platform that « this judge has repeatedly violated the laws he swore to uphold. »

In April, the judge had ordered an investigation into Elon Musk, accusing him of reactivating banned accounts, while Musk accuses him of stifling freedom of expression.

Musk also accuses Judge Alexandre de Moraes of threatening his legal representative in Brazil with arrest if the platform does not comply with what it views as « censorship » decisions.
