On Wednesday, September 4th, Panathinaikos announced the acquisition of Azzedine Ounahi on a one-season loan from Olympique de Marseille, with an option to buy at the end of the season.
According to the Greek club’s statement, Ounahi was brought in to strengthen the squad for both the domestic league and the UEFA Europa Conference League competitions.
Olympique de Marseille, on its part, sent a message wishing their former midfielder good luck in his future career.
It is also worth noting that Marseille informed Ounahi upon his arrival in Greece that the Qatari club Al Sadd had increased their offer to €35 million in an attempt to dissuade him from joining Panathinaikos. However, the Moroccan international reaffirmed his decision to stay in Europe for now.
The Atlas Lion faced a challenging period at Marseille after the end of last season, especially with the arrival of the new coach, who made it clear that he did not have plans for Ounahi in the current season.
