On Monday, customs and national security officers at the Bab Sebta border successfully confiscated a significant amount of foreign currency. A traveler had attempted to smuggle these funds into the country without following the required customs declaration procedures.

According to a customs source, during a routine inspection of vehicles and passengers, more than 254,000 euros and 1,800 Chinese yuan, totaling 2.74 million dirhams, were found in possession of a Senegalese national. A small portion of the money was concealed among the traveler’s luggage, while 200,000 euros were hidden in bundles within compartments inside the dashboard and gearshift of a Spain-registered vehicle.

The driver was handed over to the judicial police in the city of M’diq for further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Meanwhile, customs authorities seized the vehicle and the foreign currency for further inquiry.
