Since the September 8, 2023 earthquake, local associations in Haouz have emerged as symbols of resilience and hope, thanks to their strong mobilization and numerous initiatives aimed at ensuring a better future for the region’s inhabitants.
Haouz’s civil society continues to provide unwavering support to those affected by the earthquake, leveraging its deep knowledge of the area’s terrain. The Tamounte Association for Rural Women and Children Development, based in Ouirgane, is a living example of this solidarity. Established in 2016, the association creates a space for local women to share knowledge and skills, particularly in traditional carpet weaving, while also promoting children’s education by providing a supportive learning environment.
Additionally, the Afaq Association, also located in Ouirgane, focuses on securing access to clean drinking water by organizing well-drilling efforts to meet local needs.
Various similar initiatives have been launched, supported by the USAID-funded regional development program, enabling several associations to improve living conditions in Haouz’s remote communities.
In this way, local associations continue to exemplify resilience and community commitment, keeping the local population at the heart of reconstruction efforts.
