Coastal and Traditional Fishing Declines by 10% at Nador Port

Coastal and traditional fishing products unloaded at Nador port dropped by 10% at the end of August, reaching 2678 tons compared to 2961 tons during the same period in 2023, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

In its latest report on coastal and traditional fishing statistics in Morocco, the ONP noted that the market value of these products improved by 10%, reaching over 111.4 million dirhams compared to 101.5 million dirhams at the end of August 2023.

The quantities of pelagic fish landed at this port decreased by 45% during the first eight months of this year, totaling 444 tons, valued at 5.2 million dirhams, compared to 803 tons (7.1 million dirhams) during the same period last year.

Whitefish catches also saw a decline, reaching 666 tons by the end of August, with a value of 19.3 million dirhams (+ 10%), compared to 790 tons (17.5 million dirhams) in the same period in 2023.

Cephalopod catches dropped by 2%, amounting to 995 tons with revenues of 58.3 million dirhams, while crustaceans saw an increase of 48%, totaling 514 tons with revenues around 28.4 million dirhams (+ 53%).

At the national level, coastal and traditional fishing products reached 766,196 tons by the end of August 2024, marking a 2% increase compared to the same period last year (753,996 tons), with their value rising by 5% to around 7.41 billion dirhams.
