Moroccan authorities have responded to Portugal’s request for assistance in fighting the massive wildfires sweeping across the northern part of the country.
Portugal’s Interior Minister announced that Morocco has sent two « Canadair » planes to help control the fires.
Spain, Italy, and France also sent two firefighting planes each after the Portuguese government requested assistance under the European Union’s civil protection mechanism.
It is noted that the fires have resulted in the deaths of at least seven people in the Aveiro and Viseu regions.
