On Tuesday evening, Casablanca hosted the pre-screening of Summer Days, directed by Faouzi Bensaïdi, in the presence of a group of artists and personalities from different fields.
This film, Bensaïdi’s fifth, revolves around the end of one season and the beginning of another, as shy relationships form, others fade, with mysterious memories and illusions overshadowing reality in Tangier, a city shrouded in recollections.
The plot follows a family weighed down by debt, fleeing the pain of the past while clinging to a history they refuse to forget. As autumn approaches, they are forced to sell their childhood home and the surrounding land.
The movie, a Moroccan adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s play The Cherry Orchard, features a talented cast portraying a touching story filled with emotional encounters and impossible reconciliations.
In addition to Mona Fettou and Faouzi Bensaïdi, the 90-minute drama-comedy stars Mohcine Malzi, Nezha Rahil, Nadia Kounda, Abdo Taleb, Hassna Moumni, Mohamed Choubi, Noureddine Saadan, Said Bay, Abderrahim Samadi, and Mustapha Houchin, along with other prominent figures from Morocco’s art and cinema scene.
Director, screenwriter, and actor Faouzi Bensaïdi stated that Summer Days, inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful plays by Russian author Anton Chekhov, marks his return to theatre. The film speaks of a world that ends and a new one that begins, emphasizing values of beauty, love, and art, while the new world is driven by materialism and dominated by money.
Actress Mona Fettou plays the role of a sophisticated woman who returns to her homeland after a five-year absence due to trauma. Upon her return, she is shocked by the changes and the loss of her wealth. Initially resistant to the new reality, several events lead her to change her perspective on life.
