25 Dead and 2,967 Injured in Urban Traffic Accidents

Between September 30th and October 6th, 25 people died and 2,967 were injured, including 103 seriously, in 2,193 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the main causes of these accidents, in order of frequency, include: driver inattention, failure to give right of way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain safe distance, loss of control, unauthorized direction changes, failure to stop at “Stop” signs, changing direction without signaling, running red lights, driving on the wrong side, driving against traffic, unsafe overtaking, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Regarding traffic control and enforcement, the same source noted that security services recorded 51,566 violations, prepared 8,654 reports sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and collected 42,912 fines, amounting to a total of 9,496,050 dirhams.

The statement also reported that 5,422 vehicles were impounded, 8,654 documents were confiscated, and 264 vehicles were immobilized.
