At a meeting of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Saudi Arabia renewed its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a final resolution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, within the framework of the Kingdom’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The representative of Saudi Arabia emphasized that his country « reaffirms its support for the autonomy initiative in Moroccan Sahara in the context of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial unity, as a solution consistent with international law and the resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations. »
He also indicated that Saudi Arabia rejects any infringement on the supreme interests of the Kingdom of Morocco or any violation of its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
Furthermore, the diplomat expressed his country’s support for Morocco’s efforts to reach a realistic political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, based on a spirit of consensus and in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions, under the supervision of the UN Secretary-General.
