The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a financial penalty on the Algerian club USM Alger, following its withdrawal from a match against RS Berkane during last season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

This decision came after the Algerian team refused to play the match due to the appearance of the Moroccan map on the jerseys of the Moroccan team.

According to the website « Win Win, » CAF imposed a fine of $40,000 on USM Alger, based on Article 148 of the confederation’s disciplinary regulations.

This article addresses cases of « abandonment of play, » stating that any team that refuses to play or continue a match after it has started will face a fine of at least $20,000, in addition to forfeiting the match.

The CAF’s decision was based on reports from the committees responsible for organizing the competitions, indicating that USM Alger’s withdrawal caused significant financial losses due to the cancellation of the match.
