The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed in New York its « full support » for Morocco’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom to finally resolve the regional dispute over the Sahara.
In a speech before members of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, UAE representative Abdullah Al-Zarouni emphasized his country’s « consistent » stance in standing with the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco on its just causes in regional and international forums, safeguarding its sovereignty and the integrity of its territory.
He also pointed out that the UAE supports all measures taken by Morocco to defend its legitimate rights and backs the autonomy initiative. This initiative, described by the Security Council as serious and credible, aligns with international law, the UN Charter, and UN resolutions.
The diplomat commended Morocco’s diligent efforts to enhance human development dynamics in the Southern regions, within the framework of the new development model launched in 2015, noting that this model has played a « positive » role in improving the living standards of the inhabitants of Moroccan Sahara.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of continuing the political process led by the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy to reach a final solution to this long-standing regional dispute.
