Octopus Fishing in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra: Over 4050 Tons Unloaded, Valued at More Than 345 Million Dirhams

The quantity of octopus unloaded in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region exceeded 4050 tons, with a total value of more than 345 million dirhams, during the summer fishing season for these cephalopods, which began on July 1st and ended on September 30th.

According to data from the regional directorate of the National Fisheries Office in Laâyoune, quantities of octopus were unloaded outside the region, including at Laâyoune port, Tarfaya port, and the fishing villages of Tarouma and Amegriou, totaling more than 1951 tons, with a value of approximately 154 million dirhams.

At the Laâyoune port, over 624 tons of octopus were unloaded, generating a financial value of around 50.93 million dirhams.

In the fishing villages, the quantities of octopus unloaded in Sidi El Ghazi reached over 239 tons, with a value exceeding 20.38 million dirhams, and in Aftissat, 727 tons (more than 74.74 million dirhams).

At Boujdour port, the unloaded quantities reached around 507 tons, generating a value of more than 44.70 million dirhams.

Regionally, the average price of a kilogram of octopus in fish markets is around 87 dirhams.
