Overview of Currency Exchange Operations in Morocco

In its latest monthly bulletin on economic, monetary, and financial conditions, the Bank clarified that no foreign currency tender sessions have been conducted since December 2021.

The same source indicated that, at the interbank market level, the volume of foreign currency exchanges against the dirham reached 44.3 billion dirhams in August 2024, reflecting a 29.5% decrease compared to August 2023.

Regarding bank transactions with customers, the volume reached 34.9 billion dirhams for cash purchases at the end of last August, compared to 31.6 billion dirhams a year earlier. Meanwhile, forward purchases amounted to 19.3 billion dirhams, after recording 15.9 billion dirhams the previous year.

As for cash sales, they reached 36.1 billion dirhams, while forward sales amounted to 1.7 billion dirhams, after having recorded 31.3 billion dirhams and 2.3 billion dirhams, respectively.
