The President of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Rachid, held talks on Monday at the Council’s headquarters with the President of the Federal Senate of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco, who is visiting Morocco.
A statement from the House of Councillors highlighted that Mr. Mohamed Ould Rachid praised the importance of Mr. Pacheco’s visit to Morocco, emphasizing that it will contribute to strengthening the distinguished relationship between the Moroccan House of Councillors and its Brazilian counterpart.
He also noted that parliamentary relations between the two councils support the dynamic bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, which gained momentum following the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to several Latin American countries, including Brazil, in 2004, leading to various bilateral agreements.
On this occasion, the President mentioned the pioneering Atlantic African initiative launched by the King, aimed at creating a solid institutional framework to unite the 23 countries along the African Atlantic coast and enhance logistical links between the countries of this geo-economic space.
Regarding parliamentary diplomacy, Mr. Ould Rachid emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening the ties between the two countries and expressed the desire to further develop this cooperation through the memorandum of understanding signed in 2018.
On the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity, he praised Brazil’s steadfast support, particularly the Brazilian Senate’s vote in favor of the autonomy plan for the southern Moroccan provinces.
For his part, Mr. Pacheco commended the depth of the relations between Brazil and Morocco, stressing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in solidifying strategic ties between the two nations.
He also extended an invitation to Mr. Ould Rachid to visit Brazil, providing an opportunity to enhance bilateral parliamentary cooperation and discuss matters of mutual interest.
