The European Council, gathering heads of state and government from the 27 EU member countries, reaffirmed on Thursday during a summit in Brussels the « significant value » it places on its strategic partnership with Morocco.
The European Council also emphasized the need to maintain and further strengthen close relations with the Kingdom in all areas of the partnership between Morocco and the European Union.
This is the third time the European Union has reiterated this commitment at the highest level since the European Court of Justice’s decision two weeks ago regarding the fisheries and agriculture agreements between the EU and Morocco.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Josep Borrell also reaffirmed, in a joint statement, the EU’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening its close relations with Morocco, in line with the principle that « agreements must be honored. »
Additionally, the EU’s chief diplomat, who chaired the EU Foreign Affairs Council this week, reiterated this commitment, highlighting the « significant value » the EU places on its strategic partnership with Morocco.
