On Monday, Morocco’s Interior Minister, Abdelouafi Laftit, welcomed France’s Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, in Rabat, along with high-ranking officials from both nations.
During their private meeting, followed by an extended working session, the two ministers reviewed issues of mutual interest and explored ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation. Their goal is to align their efforts with the aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron, aiming for a strategic partnership rooted in friendship and mutual respect, as noted in a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Interior.
The ministers praised the solid foundation of security and migration components that underpin their deep and multidimensional bilateral relationship. These aspects contribute to maintaining an open dialogue that enables both countries to constructively navigate various challenges.
They also discussed their shared perspective on regional and international issues, emphasizing the convergence of views regarding common security challenges. They agreed to strengthen exchanges of expertise and information to better anticipate threats, particularly those posed by terrorist groups and criminal networks, especially in the Sahel-Saharan region.
Mr. Laftit reiterated Morocco’s comprehensive security approach, which integrates intelligence exchange with preventive actions against radicalization and reintegration efforts. He also highlighted Morocco’s ongoing work in the field of migration governance and its pivotal role within the Permanent Mixed Migration Group (GMMP), a coordination mechanism on migration.
For his part, Gérald Darmanin commended Morocco’s approach to addressing security challenges, calling it a cornerstone of regional peace and stability. He thanked Moroccan security forces for their operational and logistical support in the preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
