National Federation of the Interior Sector Stands Firm on Workers’ Right to Strike

The National Office of the Federation of the Interior Sector has strongly reaffirmed the right of sector employees to strike, amidst rising opposition to the proposed strike law, which has sparked widespread controversy.

In a statement issued by the office, it emphasized the continued « exception » status of the Ministry of the Interior in the ongoing social and sectoral dialogues in various sectors, leading to increased frustration among ministry employees.

In another matter, the national office reiterated its firm rejection of the merger of mutual insurance funds with the National Social Security Fund outside of social dialogue.

The office also expressed its opposition to any attempts to pass the restrictive strike law and to any targeting of mutual benefits, stressing the importance of preserving workers’ gains in the area of retirement.

The union further condemned the significant price increases that have heavily burdened the majority of citizens.

It urged the government to take immediate and tangible actions to halt this crisis, while stressing the right of Interior Ministry employees to exercise their constitutional right to strike.

In its closing statement, the union called on the Ministry of the Interior to engage in dialogue with employee representatives, in line with the participatory approach and the values and principles of the country’s constitution.
