Floods caused by heavy rains in the Valencia region, eastern Spain, have resulted in 51 deaths, authorities reported this Wednesday.
Since the start of the week, heavy rains and strong winds have hit southern and eastern Spain, causing deadly floods in Valencia and Andalusia, in the southern part of the country.
The emergency services wrote on the social media platform X: « The initial death toll stands at 51, » adding that efforts are underway to identify the victims.
Regional president Carlos Mazón stated in a press conference that electricity and telephone communications were cut off in parts of Valencia, and several areas have been isolated due to floodwaters.
Video footage showed torrents of water flooding the streets, sweeping away cars, while rail and air transport have been severely disrupted.
