The Secretary of State for Marine Fisheries announced that the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA) aims to increase the number of aquaculture farms to 232 by 2025. Following a meeting on Wednesday, Secretary of State Zakia Driouch outlined the ANDA’s goal to achieve a production capacity of 115,900 tons and create 2,720 direct jobs. The strategy includes making highly suitable zones across Morocco available to stimulate investments in this promising sector.
Ms. Driouch emphasized the sector’s significance for Morocco, enhanced by the « Halieutis » strategy launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This sector now offers Morocco promising opportunities to enhance food security, attract investments, create jobs, and generate high added value. She called for an acceleration of support measures, including fiscal and training initiatives, to meet these objectives.
Additionally, ANDA has been developing regulatory frameworks for the sector, with ten regional plans covering over 2,300 km of coastline for sustainable aquaculture development. These initiatives have already led to 173 operational farms aiming for an annual production of 99,400 tons.
Ms. Driouch further stressed the importance of promoting aquaculture products to Moroccan consumers and expanding support systems for young aquaculture entrepreneurs.
