On Monday, two Royal Navy units, accompanied by a special commando team, successfully rescued the crew of a Liberian-flagged cargo ship sailing 110 km off the coast of Tan-Tan, without any incident.
According to a statement from the Royal Armed Forces General Staff, on November 4, 2024, a distress alert was received from the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Rabat, reporting that the ship’s crew was threatened by irregular migrants attempting to divert the vessel toward the Canary Islands.
The Royal Navy units promptly intervened, freeing the crew without any issues. The 54 irregular migrants were transported to Tan-Tan port and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for administrative procedures.
