The Democratic Union of Education and Training has written to the Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, demanding an immediate settlement of the salaries of suspended teachers, along with additional compensation.
In its letter, the union pointed out that the « impact of the crisis caused by the new decree on the education and training sector » has severely affected the situation of many teachers, who have not received their salaries since January 2024, despite resuming their duties.
The union specified that secondary education teachers who were suspended during the educational protests earlier this year and who have resumed work have not yet received the supplementary compensation owed to them.
The union argues that “given the advancements made by the Ministry in digitizing its administration and improving its human resource management, the administration’s insistence on depriving certain teachers of their salaries for over ten months lacks any logical or administrative justification, except possibly as an expression of animosity, which should have no place in public institutions.”
It is worth noting that the Ministry of National Education had suspended dozens of teachers following protests against the new sector statute.
