Spain’s meteorological agency, « Aemet, » has raised its alert level to the maximum in response to severe weather impacting Catalonia. Authorities are now on high alert as violent storms sweep through the region.

Heavy rain in Barcelona and Tarragona has led to partial transportation shutdowns. « Rodalies » train services have been suspended, and several flights were canceled at « El Prat » Airport. Flooding has also affected vital highways, adding to the disruption.

Authorities reported that by midday, about 50 flights had been canceled and 17 others diverted. The flooding extended to parts of the main terminal and airport parking areas, significantly affecting passenger movement.

In light of the situation, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has formed a crisis committee to monitor the storm’s impact on the airport and surrounding areas. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to manage the situation and ensure the safety of travelers and residents in the region.
