Police forces in Asfi, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully thwarted a large drug trafficking attempt on Thursday night involving five tons of cannabis resin. Four individuals, aged between 42 and 44, were apprehended under suspicion of being linked to an international criminal network specializing in drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.
According to sources, the arrests occurred in the rural area of “Jemaa Shaim,” where the suspects were caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle the drugs via maritime routes.
Search operations led to the seizure of two vehicles loaded with 20 plastic containers holding 400 liters of fuel, alongside 110 packages of cannabis resin with a total weight of five tons.
Background checks in the national security database revealed that one of the suspects was wanted under multiple national arrest warrants issued by judicial police in the cities of Essaouira and Kenitra for drug trafficking cases.
