American expert Samuel Milner stated that His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s speech, commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Green March, underscores Morocco’s steadfast commitment to its historical rights over its southern provinces.
In an interview with the Maghreb Arab Press Agency, Milner, a researcher at George Mason University’s Center for Middle Eastern and International Law, highlighted Morocco’s approach under the insightful leadership of the King, which has strengthened international support for Morocco’s rightful stance through legitimacy and responsible commitment.
He noted that growing support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and the Moroccan autonomy plan, acknowledged as the « only realistic solution » to this regional dispute, comes from influential countries such as France, Spain, and the United States.
Milner attributed this momentum to the wise royal leadership, which has effectively strengthened foreign policy dynamics, particularly across Europe, where there is near-universal support for Morocco’s autonomy plan.
The political analyst stressed that Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is rooted in history and transcends any negotiation debates, pointing out that the « notable international repositioning » promotes regional stability and aligns with Morocco’s efforts to integrate the Sahara into a comprehensive socio-economic framework.
In conclusion, Milner emphasized Morocco’s role as a source of stability and security in the region and beyond, as demonstrated by the royal initiative to enhance the Sahel region’s access to the Atlantic.
