On Monday, November 11, the Court of First Instance in Nador sentenced a young man in his twenties, from the Hassi Berkane area, for allegedly defaming the monarchy through social media posts.
Informed sources report that the court imposed a one-year prison sentence and a financial fine on the young man. Additionally, the court ordered the deletion of the contentious post from social media and the confiscation of the phone used to publish it, transferring ownership to the state’s property management. The judgment also obliges the convicted individual to cover court costs, with immediate execution required.
The young man was apprehended by the Nador authorities after the Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant, following the identification of his profile on social media by the cybercrime unit.
