Italian club Fiorentina has disclosed details regarding the injury of their Moroccan player Amir Richardson, who returned to the club without playing in Morocco’s final two decisive Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In an official statement, Fiorentina confirmed that Richardson is suffering from a grade 2 hamstring injury in his right leg. The issue surfaced during the « Atlas Lions' » training session last Tuesday as they prepared to face Gabon. This prompted his urgent return to Italy to begin a recovery and rehabilitation program under Fiorentina’s medical team.
The statement also noted that Richardson is currently under close observation, and his condition will be reassessed in the coming days to estimate his recovery timeline. A treatment plan has been established to ensure his swift return to full fitness.
As a result, Morocco’s head coach replaced Richardson with Hellas Verona player Reda Belhian for the match against Gabon, which had become inconsequential after both teams secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Notably, Lesotho’s victory over the Central African Republic in the final round also helped Gabon qualify alongside Morocco, the host nation for the next tournament.
This injury is a double setback for Richardson, who had hoped to showcase his skills with the Atlas Lions. However, it also highlights the necessity of focusing on his physical readiness as Fiorentina aims to prepare him for a swift return to Serie A action.
