Alarming Urban Traffic Accident Statistics

36 deaths and 2787 injuries in one week
Between November 11 and 17, 2148 traffic accidents occurred in urban areas, resulting in 36 fatalities and 2787 injuries, 126 of which were serious.

Key causes of accidents
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security identified the main causes of these accidents as:

• Drivers’ and pedestrians’ inattention,

• Failure to yield the right of way,

• Excessive speeding,

• Lack of safe following distance,

• Drunk driving,

• Ignoring red lights and stop signs,

• Driving against traffic or on the wrong side of the road.

Traffic control results
Law enforcement recorded 51,023 violations, issued 9359 reports forwarded to the judiciary, and collected 9.1 million dirhams in fines. Additionally, 4797 vehicles were impounded, 9359 documents confiscated, and 336 vehicles immobilized.
