The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Tangier sentenced four young individuals involved in a public harassment case against a woman to three years in prison each on Thursday.
The defendants faced charges of « violating a woman’s modesty with violence, » in a case that sparked outrage among the public and human rights activists.
Following the announcement of the verdict, the courtroom turned into a scene of sorrow, as the families of the convicted minors expressed their anguish and disbelief.
Last week, the case was postponed for further preparations. The accused, detained at Tangier 2 Prison, attended the trial without the presence of the victim, who for the third time opted not to appear in person. Instead, she shared an audio recording on social media, recounting the incident without disclosing her identity.
In the recording, the victim clarified that the widely circulated video did not capture the full sequence of events. Tearfully, she explained that she was wearing a long coat reaching her knees, refuting claims about inappropriate clothing.
