Strengthening Religious Guidance for Moroccan Expatriates
During a parliamentary session on Monday, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, announced the deployment of 372 religious leaders to nine countries in 2024.
These missions, comprising qualified preachers, Quran readers, and prayer leaders, have been sent to France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Denmark, and Canada. Their role is to provide religious guidance to Moroccans living abroad.
The ministry has established channels of communication and collaboration with embassies, consulates, and mosque associations managed by Moroccan communities. These organizations act as intermediaries with local authorities and implement religious projects for the diaspora. In 2024, the ministry allocated a budget of 96 million dirhams to support religious associations, provide mosques with Qurans, and enhance field visits.
Two key initiatives will be launched in 2025 in coordination with the Supreme Council of Ulemas and the Moroccan Scientific Council of Europe:
-
A media program tailored for the diaspora in five European languages.
-
A program addressing religious inquiries in multiple languages.
